Other Memberships:
Massive Content Libraries
Hundreds of random lessons across dozens of topics. It’s overwhelming, with no clear starting point or finish line.
Choose Your Own Path
Some memberships offer multiple pathways, “custom plans,” and more options. Too many starting points create confusion, and you waste more time choosing than improving.
Practice On Your Own
They show you what to practice, then leave you to figure out how long, how often, and when to move on. The responsibility is all on you, while hoping you’re not wasting time.
No Real Feedback
If feedback exists, it’s vague, inconsistent, and comes from random instructors—not coaches aligned to a single system.
Dead Community
Ghost-town forums or Facebook groups with zero engagement. No one to support you, keep you accountable, or celebrate wins with you. No sense of community.
No Direct Access
You’re just another username. No connection with the people behind the program, the coaches, or the community.
Solo School 2.0 :
Structured, Step-by-step
Although you’ll have access to my entire library of courses and lessons—that’s not the point of Solo School. The real power is in the single, clear, step-by-step training path that helps you master melodic soloing.
One Clear Path
ONE proven path with ONE clear goal: to help you improvise melodic solos with pro-level phrasing over any chord progression. Every lesson builds on the last, so you’re never guessing what to do next.
Plug & Play, Follow-along Practice
Hit play, and follow the step-by-step exercises with on-screen instructions, moving dots, clear diagrams, and built-in backing tracks. All you need to do, is follow along.
Feedback Aligned to One System
Every critique follows the same proven method—so your progress is consistent. Coaches are trained in the Solo School feedback system, and even the community gives feedback based on the exact same principles. Get clear, actionable advice that works.
An Active, Supportive Community
Members log in daily to share solos, exchange ideas, talk about gear, and help each other improve. You’ll never feel alone, and you might even make a few friends.

"far more meaningful and helpful than any other course I have ever been a part of."

"When I was first considering joining solo school, I was unsure. I had gone through a few of Roy’s courses in the past and they were amazing, but I wasn’t sure if solo school would be as helpful as I was hoping.
Well, solo school has been far more meaningful and helpful than any other course I have ever been a part of. Before solo school, I struggled with playing solos melodically and with structure.
After a couple of months, I already have seen leaps and bounds in my playing that I haven’t seen in years.
The community is amazing to be apart of with incredible feedback from everyone as well as Roy himself.
It genuinely feels like Roy is MY guitar teacher and getting feedback from him on my playing and access to ask him questions on zoom calls is priceless!
I couldn’t be happier to be apart of solo school! ."
- Daniel K.

"I have been amazed to see how much everyone has progressed. "

"Last May Roy launched “Solo School” an online community where people from everywhere could share their guitar journey together in one space, and take lessons from one of the best.
Many of the exercises and challenges are being constructed in real time according to the needs of the students.
I have been amazed to see how much everyone has progressed. There is so much happening here, and making friends from all over.
It’s a sacred space suitable for growing and honing the craft. We are all happy to have this in our lives, and it’s all because of Roy’s vision and passion to take his students to new levels."
- Kenneth C.

"It's been positive and encouraging but also very specific about areas that could be improved."

"I like the personal feedback on a specific challenge/exercise. It's been positive (but not like everybody gets a medal for participation) and encouraging but also very specific about areas that could be improved.
The "challenges" have been challenging, which has made me be more focused during my practice than I often am just working on a subject on my own. Making videos of my attempts has also gotten me away from playing exercises in a vacuum.
For quite a while I've typically practiced unaccompanied, but wanting to post my efforts for critique/review meant a lot more time playing with tracks since the various "challenges" are posted with tracks...
once you feel you have some basics under control you get a reality check attempting them with tracks with some creativity involved, as opposed to rote repetition. And even learning the basics is done with tracks."
- Anthony W.

"more progress in my soloing in the past couple of months than in the previous twenty years. "

"As a recreational guitar player for the past decades, Solo School has been a game changer for me providing exactly what I needed to make more progress in my soloing in the past couple of months than in the previous twenty years.
Roy's framework, his aptitude for teaching, and the very clear and instructive exercises and weekly challenges, form a setting that I can easily follow from home.
This is paced nicely by a friendly course community and online meet-ups every fortnight where everything can be shared and discussed.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to upload solos online for direct feedback from the community, Roy and his team.
It is not mandatory but extremely valuable and highly recommended."
- Lars D.

"everyone is super supportive of each other "

"Roy deeply cares about his students and their progress. The feedback he provides on the solos we send him are always informative, constructive, and helpful.
The backing tracks are a blast to play along with, and everyone is super supportive of each other regardless of style and where they're at in their musical journey.
Also, Roy's ability to analyze his own playing and share exactly what he's doing and how he approaches it is unrivalled"
- Amy M.

"provides valuable tailored feedback for each player"

"Roy Ziv’s Solo School has been an exceptional experience thus far for me, offering a unique advantage compared to other platforms.
After trying lessons from various schools and platforms , Roy Ziv’s lessons stand out due to their ability to accelerate progress. He shares valuable insights and tools he developed through his own hard work, saving students time and money.
Solo School has live meetings, provides valuable tailored feedback for each player, and has a great positive community as well. I am very pleased so far with the knowledge gained and the progress made, and highly recommend the Solo School to any guitarist wanting to improve their skills quickly who may feel stuck in their playing. Thank you Roy for your passion in music and guitar, and for your dedication in teaching."
- Deborah E.

"Nothing as good as Solo School. "

"Let me begin to say that i've done several courses and used lots of online resources before, but there is nothing so good as solo school 2.0.
Roy is a superb teacher. In most courses they only focus on arpeggios but Roy teaches us everything. He teaches us phrasing rhythms and structures and also how he incorporates chord tones himself. He shows how to stay in a tonal centre without only play arpeggios. This was a huge lightbulb moment for me.
Also you can post videos from stuff that your working on and you can ask roy anything. He takes the time to answer and give detailed answers.
Let me say that im not a beginner, i know my chords, arpeggios and inversions and music theory. However roy focus on structured excersises with goals so we focus on one area and ingrain that in our ears and muscle memory.
I recommend solo school for every intermediate student who wants a structured way of learning and detailed feedback."
- Tim I.

"more creative and intentional with the way I'm creating licks and improvising. "

"I love the systematic approach the program follows. The concepts are simple yet very powerful and the exercises are designed to drill them in your system while having fun. I very much enjoy the way we practice by playing but adding some little restrictions or rules. It makes the practice fun, boosts my creativity and prevents me from noodling around in my comfort areas of the fretboard.
The community is very supportive and has two major benefits in my view: as listeners, some colleagues provide valuable feedback on my solos, things that I might otherwise have overlooked completely; as participants, their solos provide me with ideas I may want to incorporate to my own playing. Plus, it feels good to be part of a group where everyone is working on the same things at the same time. On top of all this, Roy's direct feedback on my solos, is extremely valuable and helps me ensure I'm on the right track.
After a few weeks I definitely feel more comfortable and confident playing in certain areas of the neck as well as more creative and intentional with the way I'm creating licks and improvising. I'm looking forward to what's coming next!."
- Juanma G.

I spent years trying to figure out how to teach melodic improv in a way that actually works. I tested ideas, scrapped them, rewrote everything, and tested again, until I finally came up with a structure that made sense.

"After 30 years of playing guitar, I finally found a way that works: Solo School"

"After 30 years playing guitar and scraped all the information on 1000’s of Youtube sites, I now finally found a way that, yes!, works: Solo School!
The way Roy Ziv explains the ‘Whole Solo Idea Problem’ with an unique, well thought out structure, in easy little steps and supported with clear examples and visuals on the screen is invaluable.
As he states “all the little puzzle pieces we’ve learned here and there have no connection with each other, thus it’s hard to recall it from memory on the spot”. Ex-act-ly what was happening when I had to improvise on the spot.
Roy’s system connects all those puzzle pieces to a standard fundament, The Soloing Framework, and with that idea it become extensions of what we already know. That’s working! Build and extend on what I know in 30 years playing, my solos become much more melodic, better phrased, more speed and more professional.
With other courses, you get the videos and have to practice. But nobody tells you if you’re doing it good, where you can improve or where your weak points are.
Roy gives live feedback on every video we upload after the exercise and points out the weak points and what can be improved. Personal, for every student he zooms in at level of the student.
I mean we can find millions of Youtube videos which explain thousand licks to play in every form.
But there’s not a single one who shapes me on the spot! during the progress and shows me where I can improve or point out the pitfalls we all (can) make.
I stopped scraping Youtube. Solo School keeps me motivated and I see the progress week by week. Better than any Netflix series ;)
Besides the lessons there’s a great valuable community inside Solo School where the students talk about guitars and music, give each other tips and motivation on the video’s. I like to talk ‘all day’ with fellow guitarists, for me that’s much more interesting than the known Social Media.
And periodically we have a Zoom call with Roy. That’s like an “Open Office Hour” We come to hangout, ask direct questions, also questions outside the Solo School framework, to Roy which gives clear and great explanations and live examples.
If that’s not enough. You have free access to ALL the courses he released and will release if you want to deep dive in a certain subject.
And let’s be clear. How many times you get the chance to get semi 1on1 lessons and hangout with a guitarist of the level of Roy?
Add to that the service and personal touch of Roy and you get why I cannot recommend Solo School enough!."
- Carl B.

"I feel like Roy is MY guitar teacher"

"Roy's Solo School is a really great place to study guitar. Roy clearly cares about his students, and he is a fantastic teacher with an excellent ear to immediately pick out weaknesses in your playing.
His advice has really helped me build better soloing technique. Solo School not only has a wealth of practice videos and courses, but also nice tools to upload media files and videos for Roy to review and comment on.
It also has a growing community of students, who are happy to talk about their playing technique as well as guitars, gear, and even recent events they've attended.
Perhaps most importantly, in Solo School, I feel like Roy is my guitar teacher. I can ask questions, get advice, and learn from one of the most impressive guitarists in the world."
- Eddy H.

"you will absolutely find your place here."

"My first encounter with Roy Ziv was through his online course Guitar Modes Navigator—a brilliantly structured, highly engaging journey through the modes that made music theory finally feel intuitive and fun. So when the opportunity to join the new edition of Solo School came up, it was an absolute no-brainer. And after two months in, I can confidently say three things:
First, Roy Ziv himself.
Yes, he's an exceptional guitar player—but what truly stands out is his dedication to your growth. This course isn’t about showcasing his skills; it’s about elevating yours. Roy takes the time to answer student questions in live Zoom calls every two weeks (which often go past 90 minutes!), and he provides thoughtful, honest feedback on every solo submission. It’s not sugar-coated—it’s real, constructive, and always aimed at helping you move forward.
Second, the community.
Thanks to Roy’s leadership and genuine spirit, the community around Solo School is one of the most positive and supportive I’ve ever seen. Students share their solos freely, knowing they’ll be met with encouragement, respectful feedback, and a focus on growth. It’s a safe space to learn, try, and improve.
Third, the course itself.
Whether you’re learning to improvise, trying to level up your phrasing, or want to write more intentional, structured solos—you will absolutely find your place here. You'll dive into the world of phrasing (learning to speak through your instrument using musical “sentences”) and chord tones (to add meaning and emotion to your ideas). It’s a practical, empowering path for any guitarist looking to become a better soloist.
Enough said—give it a shot! Hope to see you in the next round. I’ll definitely still be a student in August :)."

- Eddy (Solo School student since September 2024)
Solo School is for guitarists who already play, but want a clearer way to improve their soloing.
You don’t need to be a shredder or advanced player, but you should know the basics:
Chords, basic pentatonic scales, a few licks, and be comfortable trying to improvise.
It’s best for players who want to work on phrasing, feel, timing, chord tones, solo construction, tone, technique, and making their solos sound more musical.
Roy is actively involved in Solo School.
He teaches live Zoom calls, adds new workshops and mini lessons, answers questions, shares ideas, things he's working on, and jumps into the community when he has something helpful to add.
That said, Solo School is not built around Roy personally replying to every single post. The main feedback flow is handled by Roy-trained coaches, with support from the community and selected input from Roy through live calls, deeper breakdowns, and occasional posts.
So you’ll still feel Roy’s presence and teaching inside Solo School, but the community is designed to support you without everything depending on one person answering every thread.
Solo School is not really for total beginners who are still learning their first chords or basic technique.
But you do not need to be advanced.
If you can already play some scales, learn licks, and try to solo over a backing track, you’ll be able to get value from Solo School.
Not at all.
Posting is optional.
Some members post regularly and get feedback. Others mostly watch the lessons, join or replay the Zoom calls, read other members’ feedback, and learn quietly in the background.
Some members only post in the 'lounge' are, talking about new guitar products, news in the guitar world, or sharing cool backing tracks they found.
You can use Solo School in the way that fits you best.
You can post your playing inside Solo School and get feedback from Roy-trained coaches, plus helpful input from the community (some players have been here for over 2 years!)
Roy also jumps in through live calls, selected feedback, deeper breakdowns, and occasional posts when he has something specific to add to the coaches feedback.
Feedback can be on soloing, phrasing, tone, timing, technique, note choice, practice, or anything you’re working on!
Live Zoom calls currently happen twice a month, usually every other Thursday at 5:00pm ET.
These are Q&A / coaching-style calls where you can ask about soloing, phrasing, technique, tone, theory, gear, practice routines, courses, or anything guitar-related.
Can’t make it live? No problem. Every call is recorded and uploaded so you can watch on your own schedule.
No.
The live calls are recorded, and you can also submit questions ahead of time.
Many members watch the replays instead of attending live. You’ll still get access to the full call library, past recordings, new workshops, community posts, feedback threads, and all the training material.
Yes.
Solo School is not just more courses.
Courses teach the concepts. Solo School helps you apply them.
Inside Solo School, you get feedback, live calls, community, new workshops, training paths, unreleased material, and a place to ask questions and keep improving.
So even if you already own the courses, Solo School gives you the support and environment that courses alone can’t give you.
90% of Solo School members owned some of Roy Ziv's courses before joining
That depends on how consistently you use the material and apply the feedback.
Some members get quick breakthroughs from one call, one piece of feedback, or one workshop. Bigger changes, like better phrasing, timing, fretboard awareness, chord tone targeting, and solo construction, usually happen over time.
Solo School is designed as an ongoing training community, not a quick one-week course. The longer you stay connected to the training, calls, feedback, and community, the more it compounds.
A lot of members stay for 9+ months because they keep getting value from the calls, new workshops, feedback, and community support.
We have a few members who stayed subscribed for 2+ years, and many member about to reach 1 year.
That’s completely fine.
Solo School is not something you have to “keep up with” every single week. Some members are active for a while, then get busy for a month or two, then come back and dive in again.
You can watch lessons at your own pace, catch up on Zoom call replays, read feedback threads, post when you’re ready, and use the community whenever it fits your schedule.
Solo School is always there when you’re ready to plug back in.
Solo School is a membership.
